Bettina Hachmann

She applies the colour in many layers and removes it again, scratches and cuts into the canvas, treats the fresh wounds and weaves them back into the whole. Tension and relaxation, injury and healing, shadow and light – all these qualities, says Hachmann, belong to her and to her work. And that is logically very close to people. Her pictures are a mirror of everyday life, not pleasing, but multi-layered. As complex as life itself, says Hachmann. She rejects thickly applied harmony, she has more of an understanding for fractures and what can arise from them – and this is exactly what her work shows time and again.
