The dynamics of the moment
The central theme in Sabine Rixen’s work is movement. Dancers, actors in the theatre or simply the posture of people in certain situations – the triggers can be different.
But it’s always about capturing and holding on. What you can’t actually capture: the dynamism and energy of a movement. Her passion for this topic has its origins in the time when she performed live sketches in various theatres. Later, dance also became an inspiration, “living music”, as she calls it.
Dance is also present as a central theme in her new work.
The fact that the works have a sketchy character is intentional. Nevertheless, the effect cannot be achieved with just a few strokes
Sabine Rixen has repeatedly revised and reworked her works. This is also reflected in the materials she uses: she likes to paint on recycled surfaces.
Recently, she has been working on portraits. Here, too, she is interested in capturing a fleeting moment, in capturing an emotion.
She likes it when a picture raises a question rather than giving an answer.
